Alaska Municipal League
AML is a statewide organization representing Alaska’s 165 cities and boroughs, with a mission to strengthen local governments and improve the condition of Alaska’s communities. AML’s organizational structure includes dedicated teams responsible for municipal planning, capital improvement, and community development, supported by a strategic services model that focuses on effective municipal operations.
Through its SIMPLE (Strategic Integrated Municipal Planning for Local Effectiveness) Program, AML offers tailored, cost-effective support for community planning that reflects local priorities and needs. SIMPLE is a shared service designed to strengthen planning and capacity support across AML’s municipal members, and extended to other community partners.
AML members are navigating a wide range of complex planning needs—from comprehensive and long-range transportation plans to housing, hazard mitigation, resilience, and beyond. SIMPLE offers on-demand services tailored to each community’s unique needs, ensuring that no municipality has to face these planning challenges alone. SIMPLE is more than just a service; it’s a commitment to strengthening local governments with the knowledge, tools, and support to tackle their most pressing challenges.
